Elderly Heroes

Home care for elderly loved ones is a concern of many people around the world. When time starts to get the better of their relatives or parent, it can add an extra amount of pressure on the children and family. Homes for the elderly can be an expensive ordeal, but at least you are given peace of mind. The only problem with this solution is finances, which can be a real stress builder. It is not always a smart idea to write off your loved ones though. There are many stories out there where senior citizens have come to the rescue in moments of terror. Take these for example:

Shovel soldier:

A report in Canada claimed that an elderly man shovelling his walkway recently handed a burglary suspect to police officers. The 32-year-old robber was running from police when he made contact with the senior citizen. The suspect reportedly ordered the man to get out of his way or he would shoot him. That was a bad move. Police claim that they rounded the corner to see the suspect now running back toward them with a gash over his eye. The unnamed shoveller had taught him some manners and the suspect had to be taken to hospital for three stitches. Sgt David Arsenault said: "It was just a plastic shovel."

Ready, aim, fire:

An elderly Sacramento resident prevented a burglary on her home by using her itchy trigger finger. The women reportedly heard noises at her front and back doors. She then looked through the peephole to see a man trying to get in. She then went to the back door and saw another man trying to gain access. She quickly went to fetch her handgun and fired warning shots off. The would-be burglars quickly took the hint as she called in police to investigate, but they were nowhere to be found.

Kung-fu grandma:

A 92-year-old woman showed agility and calm when confronted with an intruder in Hawaii. The woman, who was hard of hearing, confronted a burglar who had broken into her living area through the basement. She asked him what he was doing in her home and he quickly told her to keep quiet. She was not about to listen to his orders though and began yelling as loud as she could. The man attempted to grab hold of her but her lightning reflexes saw her duck out of the way and continue yelling for help. The intruder left with nothing, not even his pride.

Although these stories are amazing, it would not be a smart option for you to leave things as they are and hope for the best. Home care technology and panic alarm systems have steadily became one of the best ways to provide care to the elderly. Rather look into this as a way to attain complete peace of mind, while your loved ones continue to enjoy their independence.
